Balearean boc hunting in Mallorca

The Balearean Boc is a wild goat introduced in Palma de Mallorca island more than 5000 years ago, coming from Asia and originated by the mixing between the Crete goat and the Bezoar Ibex. The distribution area is the Tramuntana mountains, a range situated in the north of the island. In the last decades, an excellent work of protection has been done in the Balearean Boc populations, in order to identify the real wild goat from the hybrid specimens mixed with domestic animals. Now, the Balearean Boc is a catalogued species with its specific morphological characteristics. It´s recognized as a wild goat from the SCI and has become part of the Capra Grand Slam list. Only five private lands in the island have the acknowledgement and the Certificate of Compliance from the Majorca Government. Out of these properties, we can only find hybrid and pseudo-domestic specimens.

Its coloring is dark red with a black cross going from the front legs to its back.  The most important measuring factor is the distance between the points of each horn. The density of the population is very high, and you can spot, during a hunting day, dozens of groups of goats, and a lot of trophy males.

It´s a perfect destination, both for groups of hunters, and for  a family trip, then you can combine hunting with a lot of different activities: tourism, fishing, beach, gastronomy… Specially in summer, when you can hunt early in the morning and late in the evening, and enjoy the rest of the day in the awesome island.  The hunting area is 15-minutes drive from the sea, and 20 minutes from the capital: Palma.

It is possible to combine Balearean boc with all other species of Spanish mountain game, specially Beceite ibex and Pyrenean chamois.
