If you are looking for Chartreuse chamois, you are not only a hunter. You are outdoorsman and mountain game lover, and you are now in the best hands: after 15 years organizing  ibex and chammy hunting around the world, Pyrenean Outfitters is one of the most reliable and specialized companies for capras in the hunting business, with direct access to the best hunting areas for all subspecies around the world.

Chartreuse chamois is part of the Capra Grand Slam. It lives in a small isolated mountain beside the Alps, in the Isère Department in France. There are really few licenses of the real Chartreuse chamois, and we have access to some each year in the middle of the Chartreuse National Park. Our chamois have the Certificate of Origin from the “Massif du Chartreuse”.

Chartreuse chamois body is usually bigger than the Alpine, the fur color is browner and the hook of the trophy more curved than its cousin.

In the same territory lives a good population of mouflon, and the Alps mountains are very close, what is perfect for a combo with Alpine chamois.

Hunting season

From September 15th to end of Februrary. Even if we can guarantee the shot during all the season, -if the hunter is in good physical conditions- best period is during the rut, from November 1st to 15th.

Location

The Massif of Chartreuse is located between Chambery, in the north, and Grenoble in the south of the range. Our hunting area is in Isère Department, and the best access is from Lyon international airport, at 1,5-hours drive.

Trip plan

Day 1: Meeting in Lyon airport. Transfer to Grenoble and rest.

Day 2: hunting chamois. Overnight in hunting cabin in the middle of the hunting area.

Day 3: hunting.

Day 4: Transfer to the airport and farewell.

Please note, in good weather conditions, usually one day is enough to get an average chamois. After that, we can continue our trip for other species, like mouflon, Alpine and/or Pyrenean chamois. If you come only for Chartreuse, we recommend you  buy an open ticket to reschedule your flight. We can also organize some sightseeing tours or or outdoor activities after your successful hunting.

Lodging

Depending of the arrival time, it is possible go straight to the hunting area and  start hunting the same day. In this case, the lodge will be in small country hotel or hunting cabin.

If your flight is in the evening, the first night you will be lodged in Grenoble for resting in a comfortable hotel.

possible combinations

Close to the Massif of Chartreuse it is possible to hunt mouflon and Alpine chamois. Pyrenean chamois area is at 6-hours drive. It is also possible a combo with all Spanish hunting game.

Guns and ammunition

Rifles in 6mm and 7 mm calibers are the most adapted for this hunting: 6,5 Creedmoor, 270 Win and WSM, 7mm RM, with bullets from 100 to 165 grains.
